What Makes Us Special

Private Homelike Setting in Natural Surroundings

Magnolia Creek is housed in a residence that offers the warm comforts of home and family-style meals with staff. Our wooded property and private stocked lake attract wildlife and offer areas for hiking and quiet reflection, helping residents cultivate a sense of inner peace and connection to nature.

Low Resident to Staff Ratio

We admit no more than 10 residents at one time in order to maintain a small, intimate setting and intensive, personalized care.

24-Hour Nursing Care

Our nursing staff is on-site 24 hours a day providing continuous care to meet the medical needs of our residents.

Staff Specialized in Eating Disorders

Our clinical director, medical director, and psychiatrist have exclusively treated eating disorders for a combined total of more than 30 years. Also, many of our key staff are recovered from eating disorders themselves, providing residents with positive role models of recovery.

Intensive Group Therapy and Frequent Individual Sessions

Our treatment provides a cohesive balance of individual and group interventions. Residents participate in close to 20 hours of group therapy sessions each week. They have approximately 5 to 7 weekly individual sessions, meeting with their primary therapist 2-3 times a week, and our clinical director, director of nursing, and dietitian once a week. Our medical director and psychiatrist are also regularly available for appointments as needed.

Experiential Program Components

Our experiential program includes creative expression through art, yoga and movement, adventure-based and experiential therapies, gardening, and recreational activities. In these mediums, each resident is given the opportunity to explore healthy coping skills by creating symbols, building connections, and moving deeper into their recovery through their involvement in each activity. These experiential components produce metaphors for the resident to use in forming new thoughts, new coping skills, and a new way of life.

Resident Collaboration in Treatment

Residents actively participate in their treatment, including establishing goals and evaluating progress on a weekly basis.

After Care Planning and Support

After Care planning starts early to ensure that each resident has the support she will need upon discharge. For the first year following treatment, we provide a weekly therapy group for alumni living in Birmingham area to ease the transition out of treatment.

Family Involvement

Weekly multi-family groups (for local and/or visiting families) and frequent family weekends promote family involvement in recovery. Family weekends include family therapy, education, and family activities to promote reconnection and healing.
